When you think of “The Peanuts”, for sure Snoopy as the most iconic character comes first on your mind – but you instantly have to think fondly of his master Charlie Brown. And speaking of him, we today know that “from all Charlie Browns in the world, he is the Charlie Brownest…”. And as we for decades went through all seasons with the lovely Peanuts bunch, we also witnessed how he decorated his Christmas tree. Didn’t he pick the most droll one? 🙂

By the way: we did not really plan to put up a Christmas tree this year. But somehow it turned out, that the kids would come to the westside and we would host our little family Christmas party. It was quite spontaneously (a few days before Christmas) and I had luckily the Christmas ornaments on my fingertips. But a tree? Ryan grabbed a saw and meandered through the garden. We have two bigger Hawaiian pine trees on our fence line – and surprisingly for all of us (including the tree) one of them got cut partly!

As Ryan came back into the house carrying a “green something”, he admitted, that he brought us a “Charlie Brown Christmas tree” – but for me it turned out to be the most beautiful pine tree thingy. 🙂 I suddenly knew, how Charlie himself must have felt 🙂 And I thought: of all Charlie Brown Christmas trees, THIS must be the Charlie Brownest! Just too cute!

Decorating it was fun – all our ornaments found a perfect place. The colorful string of lights completed everything and the puny tree was shiny as can be! As we did not have too many presents, they all fit perfectly under the little piece of green (except the family surfboard for the kids).

Our Hawaiian Christmas Eve was perfect! As the kids arrived we first had a little snack and aperitif, than we went for the sunset to beach, walked along the decorated houses of the neighborhood, it was such a pretty and festive ambiance everywhere. Our grandchild played in the sand and us four watched alternately her backing funny cake and parallel the sun disappear. As it got dark the main course from the oven was ready to go – followed by desserts and presents and beaming faces. Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters sang for us “Mele Kalikimaka” – and we were all really cheerful.

Somehow I wondered how the Peanuts would look Hawaiian style, did Charles M. Schultz ever thought about that? All suddenly I am curious, how a Charlie Brown palm tree would probably look like…? 😉

Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
That’s the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way to say Merry Christmas to you
