Nats/ December 17, 2022/ kaua'i bulletin - english blog, on the other side (mainly USA)

I could say, the most beautiful sunsets are on the westside of Kaua’i. But that would be arrogant, and probably not true 😉 I know, that on Vis we as well often have gorgeous colors before the night falls, mostly when the clouds are helping to paint the sky. And even in boring grey and heavy on concrete Germany we have extraordinary colorful skies when the sun goes down. Industrial romance 😉

But back to Kaua’i! You can say, when the sun goes down here on the Westside, it is always a really big happening. Not just tourists gather along Kekaha beach but so many locals are enjoying this special time of the day. Every day. They are sitting on the funny boulders along the shore or in the sand, relaxing; some are bringing drinks, some are bringing their camera – but all bring their excitement for another sunset in paradise 😉

From our house to the beach we have a short walk of 300 meters, and sometimes we can already guess, how the sunset would develop, when we look from our garden towards the sky above the sea. The colors often start to lure us to the shore. Hush, hush, the sun is setting soon! But we can not see the horizon, so it can happen – and it happens very often – that there is a cloud-belt on the horizon, which prevents us from seeing the sun dipping into the water.

But still, when we walk from our garden, passing two other houses and than get already to the field of the Kekaha Cemetery from where we can see across the starting sunny spectacle – it is already worth every step! And even when we can not see how the glowing ball of fire vanishes into the water – there are still the rays and the clouds who make that moment every time again special.

So, as you will maybe have noticed: We go often for a short sunset-happening to “our beach”, right before our dinner – it’s simply a beautiful hors ‘d oeuvre we devour with our eyes… 😉

Don’t forget: The most beautiful sunsets need cloudy skies…
