West on both sides

There was a time – back in the days, I started even 20 years ago 😉 – as I wrote some column in our local newspaper. I texted little funny stories about our life in the western part of our city (for me left of the Rhine river was of coars the prettiest part of the town) – and I named the column “westside stories”. Now after ten years of not creating those texts anymore it now not just happend, that I started to write again, it came on top in my mind, that in my new hometown I again will live in the very west. This time in the very west of the island Kaua’i. There we find – similar to my native town Duisburg – as well special working-class-districts, with for that part typical styled houses for a certain type of workers. In Duisburg we had pretty little houses and compact residential areas for and from the miners – but in the west of Kaua’i we can not dig that deep, haha, so no miners-styles in sight. The houses there are build on sand and are often planatation homes. More precisely there are residential areas for the field worker from the former sugar cane planatations. Unfortunatly not many things are left from the big suger cane industry beside those cute old wooden buildings. (We are lucky to live in one of thoses nice antique homes.) Only an rusty inoperative mill and some “creatures” wich survived brave and friendly around the old houses. And brave as well the humen have to be, when the two species meet up – what I talk about here are the frightning looking cane spiders – and I am not sure yet, who will win the fight over our bathroom…
