It was a beautiful day at the beach. We visited friends who camped out and enjoyed the sun as well the pavilion-shade, the wind, the ocean, some snacks, some drinks.

After the men did not go surf, they grabbed their women by the hand for a swim experience. It is I think well known, that I don’t like the Pacific that much. The waves are mean. They are powerful. They work you in a heartbeat, so you don’t know where is down and where is up, the latter is there, where you can breath again. 😉

But I was brave and lost my fear of sharks on top – when we are a group of four the probability that “he” get’s me sinks to 25%, haha, I was glad, that I took care of statistics in university.

So, the sets of waves rolled constantly towards us and it was simply incredible, how those tall walls of water build up right in front of your face, just with the intention to swallow you in the next moment. You have only one chance: dive under and immerse into the calmer lower part of the water-monster.

When you do that you feel a moment of breathtaking peace. You hear the rumble of the bad breaking wave followed by a noise of airbubbles and swirling turbulence. And than you can emerge again. But in the very same moment you must watch out for what is next, the ocean don’t allows you one moment of unawareness.

By the way: I had finally a beautiful body-surf-experience! I surfed on my belly on my husband’s back to the beach. He helped me with that funny surf-style by creating a body-body-surf, I by my self am plainly not able to do that. And it worked!! It was an awesome moment, I was euphoric, I smiled, I looked to the beach, I looked for him, I turned happily around – and got smashed by the following wave. Bang! In the next second my head was down in the sand, I felt like being in the laundry machine, it swirled me around so fast. Where am I…?

I had sand everywhere. It is now two days ago. I took several showers. After I could remove the sand out of my ears and other body cavities it is now just the hair, that keeps the sand back. And every morning since then I wonder how Mister Sandman could sprinkle such piles of golden slumber over night – but he brought me very good sleep…
